Presenting you the first part of My first ever written story ...

Returning home after a tiring day at work their was something Kunal looked forward to because he knew there was someone waiting for him. Someone with whom he could share the happenings of the day and talk about how busy his schedule was without being shouted at for being late or being accused for not paying attention on the personal front. He knew kiran be waiting for him when he returned home, ready to offer a great healing day talk. he was too tired. He knew she would get him a glass of water and listen to all that he had to say.

He had grown used to the fact that he would never need to use the extra key they kept under the pot outside my home He had grown used to the fact that the door would be opened without him having to press the doorbell because mom be waiting at the balcony. The dogs ouside who are kunal's friend will bark with innosense and a hunger .
The first thing he would smell as he entered the house was the aroma of snacks ,a cup of sugar free tea she had made for him, knowing he would be hungry.
All this had somehow changed…

Part - 2

Today as kunal drove into the parking lot he involuntarily looked up at the balcony of his home. Like he had half expected, the door of the balcony was closed. He suddenly felt tired at the thought of the next few things he would have to do after reaching his home , starting from picking up the key from under the pot to cooking his own snacks. Apart from this there were things he would not be able to do like sharing the most important event at the office. Though it was good news it had lost its charm the moment kunal realized that kiran was not at home. Even today he was going to be lonely, like he had been the past few weeks.
Though he knew he had no control over what was happening and there was nothing he could do to change it, why did he feel that he should change all this? Did he have the right to interfere in kiran's life ?
Pushing those thoughts aside, he got out of the car and walked to the Road. A few people greeted him on the way and though he was unwilling to return their greetings he still smiled and returned their hellos because this was one thing kiran had taught him. He had learned from her not to let his own frustration or tiredness reflect on how he behaved with others. In spite of all the good things he had learned he was thankful that he was alone at the Road. He knew he would not be able to handle more smiles and hellos on the way to his home where no one was waiting for him. Why had he become so used to kiran ? He did not know.
As he reached the home the closed door was anything but welcoming. Instead of reaching for the key he go
to the topmost floor of the building. On reaching the top floor he cried.
As the evening air brushed against his skin he longed for kiran’s touch on his shoulders, slowly massaging his aching body. The massages not only made him feel rejuvenated but also made him feel as if he belonged to someone.
He kept his bag on the bench and walked to the edge. He loosened his neck tie, took a deep breathe and tried to relax.
He spent some time on the terrace, silently savoring the calmness of the locality. His society was away from the main road and hence the sound of vehicles was almost obliterated by the dense plantation.
He looked at his watch and knew it was time for kiran return. He did not want to see her coming. That is one thing he had not learned to accept though he had accepted that now she was with another man.
He made his way back to the home room , taking the stairs instead . The door was still closed. He reached for the key and opened the door. Without switching on the lights he sat on the sofa and closed his eyes.
He was awakened by the sound of plates and then smelled the familiar aroma wafting from the kitchen. He did not know how much time he had slept on the sofa; he had not even heard kiran come in the apartment. He got up and walked towards the kitchen. kiran was startled to see him
When did you get up?
Just now… why did you not wake me?
Just look into the mirror and you will get the answer yourself… bad day at the office?
Not exactly, just tired…” saying so, he moved to sit at the dining table.
Why don’t you go and take a wash first?”
yes … sorry” kunal as he walked towards the bedroom. How could he forget that kiran would not allow him to touch her delicacies until he had washed himself thoroughly!
While kunal took a wash, kiran set the tea, placed the snacks on a plate and carried two plates to the hall. She switched on the radio and was humming the song that was playing without realizing that kunal staring at her.
She’s beautiful” he thought. “I shouldn’t be thinking like this”, he added.
Though kiran and kunal stayed in the same home their relationship was nothing more than that of friendship. They were perhaps more than friends but they were definitely not lovers. Even if no one understood this, they knew it and appreciated that the other thought the same way.
Their bedrooms were in different corners of the home and they slept in their respective bedrooms except once when kunal had insisted that kiran stay with him. Even then they had not shared a bedroom. They had spent the whole night in the living room. kiran held him in his arms.

Part -3
It was kiran who had received the post informing him of his mother’s death at her home town. When kunal was back from the office she had not told him about the telegram immediately, instead she had massaged his neck and shoulders in the regular manner, got water for him and then after he had told her about his day at the office she had shown him the telegram.

The rest of the evening and most of the night kunal had spent crying and talking about his mother regretting that he could not be next to her when she died. He cursed his cousins for not letting him know about her illness. He was surprised to know that kiran had called up his cousins to enquire how it had happened and they had told her she had passed away in her sleep.
When it was time for them to retire into their respective bedrooms kunal had requested her to keep him company in the living room and kiran had agreed to do so.
She then sat next to him and as he leaned close to her she took him in her arms and moved her fingers through his hair.
That was the closest they had ever got.

kunal did not realize that kiran was staring at him.
“Are you okay?”
“I … yes … I am fine, how was your evening”
“It was good … but why are you staring at me like that??
“I was not staring, I was thinking”
“What?”
“That kapil is lucky to have you in his life”
kiran smiled.
They finished eating and as kiran was washing the plates it started to rain. She hurriedly finished her work and walked to the balcony and was surprised to see the door open. More than that she was surprised to see kunal getting wet in the rain
“You never loved the rains” kiran said as she joined him in the balcony.
“I never loved anything or anyone”
“And now?”
“I love”
The expression on kiran’s face changed as if she feared kunal in love with her
“Now, I love the rains” kunal completed his sentence.
kiran walked to the farthest end of the balcony, away from kunal. From her expression he could imagine that she was thinking of kapil . kunal decided to leave her alone with her thoughts. He watched her as she closed her eyes and faced towards the sky and let the raindrops kiss her face. Because there was no other balcony above theirs kiran enjoyed spending time there.
As kiran’s lips curved into a smile he wanted to walk to her and kiss her.

When kiran and kunal had visited his home town for his mother’s funeral everyone including his cousins and their wives had addressed kiran as “bhabhi” meaning sister-in-law. They assumed that kiran and kunal were married. Initially kunal surprised that kiran did not clear their doubts but had then understood that she had done the right thing. Perhaps they would have not understood. They would have not accepted that
kiran and
kunal lived in the same home without being married to one another. She knew that his cousins were not aware how difficult it was to find a place in city. And it was not kiran was staying with kunal; it was kunal was staying with her in her apartment. How they had come to stay together was a different story, which neither of them wanted to talk about. Even the car kunal drove to office was hers and he had never understood why she had asked him to use it when he had said that he would travel on the bus. He was not sure how he was ever going to pay her back for allowing him to stay with her all these days. He assumed that once kiran was married she would want him to vacate the house and hence he was even secretly looking for a house. He had applied for a loan and made a calculation of the amount he had in his bank. Little did he know that after kiran got married he would have the entire flat for himself!

Once again he failed to notice that kiran was staring at him. This time she did not say anything, she simply walked past him and as her wet body brushed against his, kunal came out of his reverie. He saw her shake her head as she headed towards the bedroom. kunal moved his fingers through his hair and wondered what excuse he would give to her this time. What would he say? Why was he staring at her? He could not possibly tell her that he was in love with her especially when they had promised each other that they would never fall in love with one another.

Till the day kapil has come in kiran’s life kunal had considered kiran as a friend and when he did not consider her as friend he had considered her as a guardian angel sent to help him survive. kiran blushed whenever kunal said this. Though he really meant what he said, over a period of time he started saying it often because it made her smile. But once kapil entered kiran’s life things had changed. kunal did not want them to but they had. He was sure he would accept the change but his heart had failed him. Though he was happy for kiran he did not know why his heart ached to know that kiran would not be there for him like she used to be.

Its not over its in cont : mod second part will be soon their ..

Part -4

kiran a hopelessly romantic person and enjoyed rains and would not mind even if it rained forever. kunal on the other hand was anything but romantic and he hated the rains. kiran used to tease that this was enough reason for them not to fall in love. Was it?
Now, kunal found himself thinking of all the times when kiran to stand at the window in her bedroom enjoying the rains. He remembered seeing her wrap her arms around herself as if holding someone in her arms or as if imagining herself being held. kunal knew she was missing a man's touch in her life.

There were times when he walked to her and simply held her hand to provide that touch, the touch of care and security. Those days he could not even think of anything further than this. kirans appreciated his action and smiled. Even then her smile touched his heart in a special way and he often told her that some day his heart would catch fire if she continued to smile at him like this. At this statement kiran used to punch his arm and walk out of the room.

“Are you not done with it yet?” kiran interrupted his thoughts.
He turned around and saw that kiran had already changed her dress and dried her hair.
“It’s stopped raining already! I think you should dry yourself”
kunal closed the balcony door and walked to his bedroom.

As kiran spent time in her room talking to kapil, kunal readied the dinner for two of them. He was not a good cook but he liked cooking for kiran
As they both had their dinner kunal noticed that kiran was staring at him as if deep in thoughts.
After a while she suddenly shot a question at him “Who is she?”
“What?”
“Who’s the girl?”
“Who?”
“The one you love …”
“There is no girl”
“I am not convinced. I can make it out. All of a sudden Mr. Practical loves rains; all of a sudden he is lost in thoughts as if there is nothing else to do. This is definitely love!”
“Come on, I was just trying to do what you had been asking me to do. Remember you always wanted me to try and enjoy the rains?”
kiran looked into his eyes before speaking again
“And being lost in thoughts? How would you explain that young man? And now don’t tell me you were thinking that kapil is a lucky person to have me in his life. I am not going to fall for this”
“No. In fact I was thinking how lucky I was to have you in my life”, saying so kunal picked up his plate and walked to the kitchen.
kiran was speechless. She tried to make sense out of what kunal had just said.
He could not be possibly in love with her. She also knew that kunal was the last person to confess his feelings after knowing that she was in love with kapil.

She turned around and looked at kunal as he washed his plates. After some time she joined him in the kitchen. Trying to force a smile on her face she asked, “You don’t really mean it, do you?”
“Mean what?”
“What you just said at the dining table.”
“Oh yes, I really mean it. I am indeed very lucky to have you in my life. What would I have been without you?”
Seeing that her eyes began brimming with tears, kunal added, “You are the best friend I have ever had in my life.”
He walked close to kiran and kissed her on her forehead.
He continued, “Remember how you took care of me when I heard about my mother’s death?”
How could kiran possibly forget that day! That was the first time kiran had taken kunal in her arms and felt his body close to hers. For a moment she thought she would lose control over her emotions and forget all about the promise they had made to each another.
When they had visited his mom's home town for the funeral and when everyone addressed her as “bhabhi” she had kind of liked it and had dwelt in the feeling till she returned back home.
Once she was in the home with kunal, she was back to reality.

kunal smiled as he saw kiran lost in thoughts.
“I think it is time you call kapil
“What?”
“You’ve been missing him past the few days even if it has been only a few hours away from him. Madly in love…”kunal teased
“Shut up” kiran said as she punched his arm.

That night in her bedroom kiran thought about what kunal had said at the dining table. She was sure she had seen a strange look in his eyes. As if he had finally spoken his mind. She turned around in bed and now as she faced kapil’s photograph placed on the side desk she wondered whether she really loved him.
It was kapil who had confessed his feelings to kiran and she had accepted it. kapil was her colleague and she kind of respected him. But, did she love him?
kiran could not understand why this thought had come in her mind in first place. Yes, she loved kapil. Obviously she did. Didn't she?

Every time when kapil and she kissed, for a flickering moment as she closed her eyes she always saw kunal’s face but then as kapil’s lips touched her lips everything else seemed blurred. When she opened her eyes to look at kapil she always found that she was happy to see him. Yes she loved him.

part -5

kiran never knew when she fell asleep. When her alarm buzzed early in the morning she felt as if she had slept only for a few minutes. She pulled herself out of the bed and readied herself to go to the office. Though she did not need to work for a living she preferred working for an independent life. Her parents had left enough for her, the apartment, their car and a decent bank balance. But she liked to work. As she dressed herself she could not stop thinking about what kunal said to her at night. Dreamily she combed her hair and looked at herself in the mirror for the last time before walking out of her room. kunal was already waiting for her in the living room.

“You are late today”
“Yeah, I am sorry about that. You should have left instead of waiting for me”
”This is the least I can do for you, you know it.”
It was true. Dropping kiran to her office on the way to his own work was the least kunal could do for her in return for what she had done for him. Apart from the material things she had even made him the person he was today. It was because of her that he understood what love was.
“Come on now we are getting late” kiran said tugging at his sleeve!
kapil was waiting for her at the office entrance as kunal stopped the car near the gate. Saying a quick bye kiran got out of the car and rushed towards kapil.
kunal watched as kapil put his arms around her and kissed her on the cheek.
Then, he did a U-turn and drove to his office.
Suddenly he remembered that he had forgotten to tell kiran about his promotion. The lover inside him wanted him to call kiran immediately and share the news but the grown man inside asked him to wait till the evening when she would be back home.

On the other hand, kiran realized that she had not informed kunal that she would be late in the evening because she had a special date planned with kapil. She would tell him once she finished the pending work on her desk, she thought.
During the lunch break as she was sitting with kapil in the mess she tried to call kunal from her cell.
“Do you really have to tell him that you will be late?”
“Yes, or else he will be worried.”
“Why?”
“Stop it kapil, we have talked about this many times over.”
“I did not say anything.”
“You just did”
“Ok. If you wish to argue”
“Argue about what? There is nothing to argue about. You have known about kunal since the day we started dating.”
“Hmmm”
“Were you not the one who said that it was cool how we trusted each other so much and you respected kunal for the kind of person he was”
“Yes. It was different then.”
“And what is different now?”
“Don’t you see he loves you?”
“Oh please stop that crap!” Though kiran said this to stop kapil from talking further, in her heart she knew that Aman was right. Even she had been thinking about this these past days and whenever kunal had caught her off-guard deep in thoughts she was not thinking about kapil but about kunal. How had this happened? What had she done to make him fall in love with her? Had it something to do with how she cared about him? The way she massaged his shoulders or had it something to do with how she had taken care of him during the worst phase of his life?
Whatever it was, she was now feeling bad that she had unknowingly done this to him.

kapil was staring at her as she was engrossed in her own thoughts. He was about to say something but right at that time their lunch arrived and he gulped down the words along with the food.
kiran made up her mind not to inform kunal about the late evening. After all kapil was right. It was her life and she was not answerable to kunal.

They finished their lunch in silence and walked back to their respective desks. There was unspoken tension between them and it had everything to do with kunal. As they worked at their desks, oblivious to each other's presence even if they were occupying adjacent desks, kapil could not stop thinking about kiran’s reaction. He was now scared of losing her. Was she in love with kunal too? The question troubled him throughout the day and as the evening came closer and it was about time they left the office for their romantic date kiran’s mobile beeped. She looked up from the file she was going through and saw that she had a message. She read the message and her lips curved into a smile.
The message was blank. That was how kapil always apologized. She knew kapil was always at a loss of words when it came to saying sorry. At other times he was the most talkative. There was not a single day that went by without kapil saying ‘I love you’ and kiran liked it. He often bought gifts for her; though they were not expensive she knew they were straight from his heart. The red roses kapil gave her on their dates were still occupying a box in kiran’s wardrobe. They were withered now but they still carried the fragrance of love.

kiran sent a blank message back to kapil. The next time her mobile beeped she knew it was kapil saying ‘I love you’ to her so she did not bother to check but simply looked at kapil smiled.
They finished their work and walked out of the office together.
kapil summoned a cab and they both got inside. Their date had begun.

Sitting in his office, kunal was not sure whether he had done the right thing. Gripped by his emotions and in a crazy moment as if he was being controlled by someone else he had typed a message to kiran and sent it across and as soon as the message was sent he repented what he had done. He hoped, really hoped, that she would not receive the message but when he got the delivery report for the same he just prayed that kiran would not read his message. That is what had exactly happened.
Had kiran read that message, things would have been different than how they turned out to be in the next few hours.

part -6

kapil had made sure that kiran knew nothing about his plans for the evening. He stopped the cab in front of a flower shop and bought red roses for her. kiran accepted the roses with a smile. The cab then stopped in front of her favorite restaurant. And as she got out of the cab she could not understand what this was all about.

Once inside the restaurant they ordered sandwich and coffee and just before the sandwich arrived kiran recd a call on her mobile. From the way she spoke on the phone kapil could make out that it was some official call and not kunal’s call. kiran kept the mobile on the table and got up to go to the washroom. As soon as she was out of sight kapil picked up her mobile and checked for the messages. When in office he had seen that kiran had received a message, which she had not bothered to see assuming that it was kapil’s message. He wanted to read what the message was. Once he read the message he deleted it from the mobile.
Almost at the same time kiran returned to the table.

“What are you doing with my cell?”
“Just playing games, that’s all”
“You know I do not like someone touching my cell”
“Ok. I am sorry”
kiran was not sure she had heard him right so as she sat on her chair she asked him, “What did you just say?”
“I said sorry.” kapil repeated placing the cell in front of her.
kiran well knew that kapil the last person to say sorry to anyone. Whenever he was really sorry he just sent her blank message and hence when he said sorry this time she was doubtful whether he really was.

There was no way she could find out what was he doing with her cell. Was there was a call from kunal? Or even a message? Knowing how kapil felt about kunal, she was sure that kapil would not tell her about it. She looked at him and tried to see some hint of guilt or anger on his face.
As kiran was thinking about this, kapil’s mind was also occupied with somewhat similar thoughts. He was thinking about what kapil has written in the message. He wanted to know how kiran
felt about kunal taking a hint from how she had reacted in the mess today he knew it better not ask her straightaway. He stared at her trying to read her reaction. Trying to know whether she was 100% with him that evening! Both of them stared at each other for a long time till they were interrupted by the waiter who brought the sandwiches.
kapil knew that if he had to do something about this it had to be done today.
Immediately he chalked out further plans as he munched over his sandwich.
As they walked out of the restaurant kapil told her that he had some more surprises waiting for her at some place. Already irritated by what had happened in the restaurant, kiran glanced at her wrist watch and said that it was getting late.
“Just some more time, please.”
kapil, I am already late and above all…” kiran was about to say that kunal might be getting worried about her but then decided against it. Finally she gave her consent to play the game along with him.
“Thank you” kapil whispered.

As they were walking towards the main road, at some deserted place along the way, kapil pulled her closer and kissed her on the lips. kiran was taken aback because this was the last thing she had expected from kapil. She did not like that kapil kissed her in the middle of the road, so what if there was no one around. kiarn moved back and was about to tell him that she did not like this but what kapil said next touched her heart deeply
“Thank you for coming in my life. It is one month since the day I confessed my feelings for you and do trust me when I say that each day since then has been a new day for me. Each day I have loved you more than the previous day and I do not know what I would have done if you would have not said yes.”

He held her hands and kissed her again, this time on her cheek. kiran not able to say anything. She just looked at kapil with tears in her eyes.
“I love you” kapil said
“I love you too” kiran replied.
After that they both were silent as they walked to the main road. kapil hailed a cab and after talking to the cab driver he called her and asked her to get into the cab. kiran was not sure what was happening but as she had decided to go with him she got into the cab.
She was surprised when the cab came to a halt in front of kapils’s residence.
